Intrinsically Safe Camera System
Two-unit intrinsically safe camera system: safe-area barrier with isolated PoE and standard RJ45, remote hazardous-area sensor on a single coax cable up to 20 m, custom Yocto Embedded Linux, color 1920×1080 global shutter at 60 fps, M12 lens mount, H.264 over RTSP or MPEG-TS. UL intrinsic safety certification in progress.
Intrinsically safe color imaging for hazardous locations — without routing Ethernet into the classified area.
This system splits the design into two units: an intrinsically safe barrier installed in a safe area or inside an explosion-proof housing, and a compact remote sensor that can be installed in a hazardous area. The units connect over a single coax cable up to 20 m, keeping the hazardous-side interconnect simple while the barrier provides standard network connectivity, fully isolated PoE, and the same streaming software stack used on our other cameras.
Highlights
- Two-unit architecture — barrier (safe area or explosion-proof housing) + hazardous-area remote sensor
- Single coax interconnect between units, up to 20 m
- Standard RJ45 Ethernet on the barrier (no Lemo required)
- Fully isolated PoE on the barrier
- H.264 compressed video over Ethernet via RTSP or MPEG Transport Stream (MPEG-TS)
- Custom Yocto Embedded Linux built by Tecphos
- M12 lens mount on the remote sensor for flexible optics
- Color 1920×1080 at 60 fps, global shutter
- UL intrinsic safety certification currently in progress
System Architecture
The barrier unit is installed in a safe area or inside an explosion-proof housing and presents a familiar RJ45 network interface with fully isolated PoE. Power and data for the remote head are carried over a single coax cable to the sensor unit, which can be placed in the hazardous area at the end of that cable (up to 20 m).
That separation keeps Ethernet copper and PoE PSE functions out of the classified zone while still delivering the same isolated PoE and streaming application model used on our other ruggedized cameras.
Imaging & Streaming
The remote sensor provides color 1920×1080 imaging at 60 fps with a global shutter, suitable for motion without rolling-shutter artifacts. An M12 lens mount supports application-specific optics. Video is delivered as H.264 over Ethernet using RTSP or MPEG Transport Stream, consistent with Tecphos industrial webcam streaming.
Software Platform
Tecphos supplies a custom Yocto Embedded Linux image tailored to this product, with streaming and control software aligned to industrial Ethernet video use cases. Stream formats include RTSP and MPEG Transport Stream.
Certification Status
The design is undergoing UL intrinsic safety certification. Contact Tecphos for current status, target installation environments, and how this product may apply to your hazardous-area requirements.
